You don't need to travel all the way to the Upper Peninsula to enjoy snowmobiling. Lewiston is home to an extensive network of snowmobile trails, which are interlinked with other trail systems across the northern Lower Peninsula. Local organizations, such as the Lewiston Fun Ones, work in cooperation with the Michigan Snowmobile Association and the DNR to keep these trail well-groomed throughout the winter.
During the winter months, snowmobiles are a common sight in town, and occasionally outnumber cars outside local restaurants and bars. Lewiston is also a traditional stop for the Wertz Warriors, a group of long-distance riders who raise money for Special Olympics each winter.
