Explore history of our area. The Lewiston Area Historical Society has preserved and restored an 1892 period home on Michelson Avenue. It has displays, furniture, photographs and other items from early Lewiston. Open Saturday and Sunday, noon to four, Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Montmorency County Historical Society has preserved a schoolhouse, log cabin and early farm house on the county fairgrounds north of Atlanta. It's open during the county fair, or for groups by appointment.
The Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center in Alpena features shipwrecks on the Great Lakes. Jesse Besser Museum, also in Alpena, offers fine art, historical and a sky theatre (planetarium) with programs at 2 p.m. Saturdays.
Lighthouse museums can be found at 40-Mile Point west of Rogers City, two lighthouses at Presque Isle, MI, one at Harrisville and one at Tawas Point. A host of others are on the Lake Michigan shore.
